Since I first noticed a bee visiting the biggest clump of native grasses that I have so far, I have deduced that most of the bee activity in this region is from about dawn to 10am. I have seen — and heard! — as many as 20 bees visiting this small patch at one time.
On this day when I went out to see what was happening at 10am, I saw one bee and this tiniest of butterflies. It’s a Southern Skipperling, only about a quarter of an inch long. The first photo here is a crop of the second, to show you how small this is compared to the grass on which it is resting.
