Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

Too Much Of A Good Thing

The Firewheel aka Indian Blanket (Gaillardia pulchella) that I seeded last fall have grown so well that in some cases they’re crowding out other things. One of those was my valiant little Texas Mountain Laurel tree (photo above).

I cut back some of the surrounding plants to give the tree more space, and to give me better access to it. This tree has grown quite a bit since it was planted — mostly in width, not height — and later this year I’ll expand the mulch circle to extend beyond its drip line.

And that little trimming project yielded more stems to be added to my green mulch pathway.
