A Spectrum Of Colors In The Pollinator Garden

Ideally in the pollinator garden in front of the house, there will be blooms from early spring until late fall, and in a variety of colors. Different insects and birds prefer different colors.

Sorted by flower color, this is what is currently in the garden (blooming in late July unless stated otherwise). This list doesn’t include a couple of volunteer plants, not yet identified.

RED

Gregg Salvia (Salvia greggii)

Scarlet Sage (Salvia coccinea) — volunteer seedlings from last year’s plants

Flame Acanthus (Anisacanthus quadrifidus var. wrightii) — not currently blooming (although its back garden sibling is!)

ORANGE

Texas Lantana (Lantana urticoides)

YELLOW

Horseherb aka Straggler Daisy (Calyptocarpus vialis)

Goldenmane Tickseed (Coreopsis basalis) — volunteer

Yellow Sneezeweed (Helenium amarum) — volunteer

Common Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) — volunteer

Skeleton-Leaf Goldeneye (Viguiera stenoloba) — not currently blooming

BLUE

Mealy Blue Sage (Salvia farinacea)

Bluebonnet (Lupinus texensis) — seedlings from this year’s plants that will bloom next spring

PURPLE

Prairie Verbena (Verbena bipinnatifida)

Gregg’s Mistflower (Conoclinium greggii)

Fall Aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium) — not currently blooming

Lyreleaf Sage (Salvia lyrata) — not currently blooming

PINK

Cenizo aka Texas Sage (Leucophyllum frutescens) — not currently blooming

Pink Evening Primrose (Oenothera speciosa) — not currently blooming

Gulf Muhly (Muhlenbergia capillaris) — not currently blooming

Beebalm, Bee Mine Pink (Monarda didyma) — not currently blooming

WHITE

Common Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) — not currently blooming

Chili Pequin (Capsicum annuum) — not currently blooming

Silver Ponyfoot (Dichondra argentea) — not currently blooming
