Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

What A Mexican Olive Berry Looks Like Inside

From the first cluster of flowers that my Mexican Olive (Cordia boissieri) tree produced, one berry was produced.

Soon after that photograph was taken I found the berry on the ground. I don’t know what a ripe Mexican Olive berry looks like — maybe they are green like this or maybe they change color.

In any event, I was curious and so I decided to cut it open. There was one seed that occupied most of the volume of the berry. The flesh was clinging tightly to the inner seed, so I didn’t bother to complete the separation.
