Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

Resting Dove

I see a lot of doves here, both White-Winged Doves and Mourning Doves. There is a very good supply of sunflower seeds on the ground and the doves walk around eating them.

One day I found a dove just sitting on the ground. I don’t believe it was injured because it would periodically get up and walk around and later it flew away. The resting behavior was unusual so it caught my eye, especially since it wasn’t in shade. These photos were taken when it was underneath the Desert Willow tree (which is currently being propped up until it can get a stronger footing).
