Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

A Few More Seeds In The Meadow

I was very pleased with the wildflower meadow’s first year. Any appearance of the plants I seeded would have been satisfactory, but the quantity that grew exceeded my expectations.

The three plants that were seeded in quantity — Texas Bluebonnet, Firewheel aka Indian Blanket, Spotted Beebalm aka Spotted Horsemint — are likely to come back in force next year because of the number of additional seeds that they dropped.

To add some more diversity and because I happened to have acquired some new seeds during the year, I added a few more to the meadow.

I had some pulled-apart dried Cowpen Daisy (Verbesina encelioides) flower heads from a friend, and small packs of Texas Wildflower Mix and Pollinator Essentials Mix from Native American Seed.

The seeds were mixed with a few handfuls of planting mix soil and scattered on the meadow. Some of the seeds that were there already have begun to wake up, so I’m hoping that next year’s display will be even better than the last. From a distance it doesn’t look like much at the moment, but there is definitely activity happening!
