Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

Adjustments Around The New Pond

Once the new pond had been installed, I took a whole day to make various adjustments around it. There were several projects that had been waiting until I knew exactly where the pond would be.

The installers had made a nice neat pile of soil and mulch around the pond.

I then proceeded to move some of that around to expose the Thunder Turf grass edging that had been covered (near the fence on the left), and to spread the mulch more thinly and over a larger area.

The Mexican Olive tree behind the pond had been waiting for its mulch circle to be expanded because it had outgrown its original one. I scraped the old mulch to the edge of the new circle and added a bag of fresh mulch around the tree.

Almost a year ago I salvaged a large piece of weathered Mesquite wood and installed it in the garden. It had been moved aside to make way for the pond work, but I’ve now placed it near the pond to act as a perch. In fact, “perch” is what I am calling it.

Several weeks ago I had bought several plants to go around the pond, but of course I had to wait to plant them. They look rather sparse now, but they should spread. In addition, there will be annual plants growing from seed that is already in the ground, and I am also going to sow a few extra seeds. I’ll list the new plants in another post.

  1. The pond has finally arrived! It’s looking very good. I would love to visit it in person. 🙂
