Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

Thunder Turf Repairs

Around the edge of the back yard is a border of Thunder Turf, which is a mixture of three short native grasses. In the second year here, this area is now largely established, although a portion of it did get severely trampled during pond construction (see photo above).

Mid November is usually too late to seed Thunder Turf, but since we are still mostly having daytime temperatures in the 70s and 80s and nighttime temperatures above 50F, I decided to reseed the bare patches anyway.

Most of the seed I had went on the area near the pond, but I did also seed a few bare patches in other places, for instance, where I have pulled out Bermudagrass that crept in from neighbors under the fence.

And here’s the area by the pond after seeding. In this particular instance, since I want germination to happen quickly (before winter), I will be watering this area.
