It has been three months since an American Bullfrog was relocated here from a neighbor’s yard. After that first day I didn’t see it again.
Then one recent evening there was another sighting (photo above), although I have no idea if it was the same one as before or not. It has been my experience that if toads are found by me, they are more likely to freeze than hop away. However, frogs seem to be more skittish and will disappear quickly — as this one did just after the photo was taken.
Lately I’ve been going outside just after dark because there have been interesting toad activities to watch. On a couple of occasions there has been something dark on the ground nearby that has quickly moved away once I approached. So perhaps this bullfrog is a frequent visitor to the pond but only if I am not there.
If you want a reminder of the differences between frogs and toads, there’s a nice summary here.
