Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

Variegated Meadowhawk Dragonfly

It is rare that I can get close to a dragonfly. However, they do seem to like perching on bamboo poles and I happened to be standing right over my baby Mexican Buckeye tree when a Variegated Meadowhawk (Sympetrum corruptum) landed on the marker stick that is next to the tree.

There then followed several minutes of me carefully doing Tai Chi-like movements to change positions without spooking the dragonfly in order to get the best contrast with the background that I could, and to try to get something in focus. I took about 20 photographs, but in the end only a couple were good enough to share.
