Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

A Session Of Spurge-Purging

Spotted Spurge is a common weed here, and I made the mistake of leaving it in the ground when this summer’s drought made weeding difficult. I figured I’d just wait until the soil was softer after rain. However, I failed to account for the fact that after only five weeks of growing, each plant may produce hundreds or thousands of seeds and they germinate well.

We did have rain a couple of weeks ago, and so now the garden is full of these weeds. I am trying to be more diligent about removing them when they are big enough to pull, but before they seed. So on some gardening days at the moment, pulling out Spotted Spurge is all I do. It took about two hours to fill this bucket.
