A couple of weeks ago I was gifted five Mexican Buckeye (Ungnadia speciosa) seeds. They quickly germinated (wrapped in damp paper) and went into pots on August 29, 2024. By one week later, on September 5, there were tiny shoots in four of the five pots, and they were quite a bit taller three days later on September 8.

The fifth one that doesn’t have a shoot yet certainly had a root when it went in the pot, and the seed has opened up and shed its outer coating like its siblings. So I think it’s still viable but perhaps temporarily disoriented. It will either sort itself out or it won’t!

The Mexican Buckeye shoots have grown faster (in height, not in bulk) than their Texas Mountain Laurel (Sophora secundiflora) neighbors, which have been in their pots for several weeks now.
