Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

Somebody Has Made A Home In A Pecan Log

I have three types of dead wood here, all with the intent of being used for wildlife habitat: a pile of mesquite logs (the original wood pile), a group of pecan logs on the other side of the garden, and a mesquite “perch” that stands by the pond.

I’ve noted a variety of wildlife use of the wood pile before. There has been less activity at the pecan logs that I have seen, but I recently noticed what looked like a new neatly formed hole, presumably now the home of an insect of some sort. With a flashlight I can see something white and lumpy in there, which I’m guessing might be egg(s) or larva, but I can’t take the ID any further.
