Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

Local Pollinator Garden

In 2017, a pollinator garden was created in Seguin’s Park West at 623 N Vaughan Ave, Seguin, Texas 78155, USA.

This garden is maintained by volunteers from the Texas Master Gardener Program, the Texas Master Naturalist Program, and the Native Plant Society of Texas, and I have decided to join that team.

As a new gardener to this region, this gives me the opportunity not only to be helpful, but also to learn from others more experienced than I.

In the garden at Park West, I can see what plants do well here, how they grow, and what pollinators they attract. From the other volunteers, I learn about their own gardens and projects, and benefit from hearing the conversations they have with the curious visitors to the garden. All of this helps me to be a better gardener in my own lot.

There was an abundance of wild life in the garden today. I saw hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and a dragonfly. Here’s one visitor that stopped still long enough for a photograph: a Painted Lady butterfly nectaring on an Esperanza plant.
