See this earlier post for a general summary of the Three Sisters Garden and preparation of the growing mounds. I built the mounds about a month ago to give them time to settle, and two of the five mounds each contain a trout fish as extra fertilizer!
On March 17, 2024 (after supposedly the last risk of frost, and the day after a nice soaking rain), each of my five Three Sisters mounds received four corn seeds of the variety Ambrosia (Zea mays hybrid). I marked the locations, pushed the seeds down about an inch, and will be giving them a light watering daily.
Once the corn has started growing, then the next step will be to plant beans to climb up the corn stalks.
I don’t have a good track record with vegetable gardening, so I’m hoping for greater success here. In truth, anything greater than zero would be progress!
