Our property is in the central part of a development, so to get to the development boundary, one would need to cross at least one street and one or more properties.
Therefore I expected wildlife visitors here initially to be limited to things that fly, and insects/spiders that were already in the ground when we arrived, e.g., ants.
I am certainly hopeful that the wildlife diversity will increase, but I thought I’d need to wait a couple of years.
So I was pleasantly surprised last year to see some kind of lizard twice (both times darting quickly into my wood pile). And recently, this Gulf Coast Toad (Incilius valliceps) was on my patio asking to come in the back door! I don’t have a water source here (yet), but so many of my neighbors run sprinklers that produce excess water. Perhaps that is supporting them.
