I’ve waited a long time for this, but construction of the ecosystem pond has finally begun. The story continues to have twists and turns that you just couldn’t make up (most of which I have not shared here). We are now in Month 7 of the project.
First, a baby excavator arrived, which had to be skillfully maneuvered through the narrow garden gate. That was at the end of August 2024.

Then there proceeded to be a catalog of events, some avoidable, some not, which led to the excavator being a yard ornament for over a month, and then in the end not being used.
At the beginning of October, finally a crew arrived to dig the pond. On the day they came, the excavator was inoperable, and so a valiant crew of three worked in 95 degree heat to dig the pond hole without the use of the excavator.

The following day, the excavator was once again maneuvered through the gate to be removed without having done any digging at all.
Anyway, now I have a nice hole that is two feet down at its deepest point. I don’t know when the build will happen because some of the pond kit parts are back-ordered. But at least I have a hole!
