Rewilding My Lot

Converting a new developer lot into a nature ecosystem — my journey

The Tiniest Toad

Many of the things I find in the garden are noticed when I’m not searching for them at all. I happened to be looking closely at grass beside our house when I spotted something moving. It was the tiniest toad I have ever seen — less than half an inch in length and dwarfed by the surrounding blades of bermudagrass. I presume that it’s a Gulf Coast Toad, since that is what I see most commonly around the nearby pond, and they certainly have been mating.

Could it be a tree frog? (don’t know correct name) It looks greener and with very long legs.

    1. I can’t rule that out — I have seen tree frogs here. It was so small that I couldn’t really tell details. But I do see a lot of toads here and I know they’re breeding.
